How an auto loan payment is calculated
The financed amount is vehicle price plus an illustrative sales-tax amount and fees, minus your entered down payment and trade-in credit. We amortize that financed amount over the selected term at a fixed APR. Actual sales-tax treatment of trade-ins varies by state, so edit the assumptions to match your purchase paperwork.
Why terms and total interest matter
A longer repayment term can make a monthly payment appear more manageable while keeping you in debt for longer and potentially increasing overall financing costs. Compare more than the monthly payment: inspect total interest, loan amount and insurance costs.
Before you buy
Ask the dealer or lender for an itemized out-the-door price, tax details, registration charges, interest rate and early-repayment conditions. This calculator does not include fuel, repairs, insurance premiums or depreciation.
Common questions
Does it use my state's exact tax law?
No. Enter an estimated percentage. In many states, credits and exemptions may change the taxable value; verify with official state guidance or the dealer.
What if I pay cash?
Set the financed amount to zero using down payment and trade-in inputs, or simply compare the all-in purchase price separately.
