Alphabet Q3 2026 Earnings: Google Cloud Jumps 103% as AI Spending Pressures Cash Flow
Google's parent delivered strong sales growth, but investment losses and a $51.4 billion capital-spending quarter complicate the profit picture.

October 28, 2026 — Alphabet reported $127.6 billion in third-quarter revenue, up 25% from a year earlier, as its Google Cloud business more than doubled sales. The results offer two different views of the same AI investment cycle: cloud demand is accelerating, while infrastructure spending is consuming cash at an extraordinary pace.
How much did Alphabet earn in Q3 2026?
Alphabet's official earnings release lists $127.577 billion in consolidated revenue for the three months ended September 30, compared with $102.346 billion in the year-earlier quarter. Operating income rose from $31.228 billion to $40.576 billion, an increase of about 30%. The company reported an operating margin of 31.8%.
Net income available to common stockholders, however, fell to $26.170 billion from $34.979 billion. Diluted earnings per share declined to $2.12 from $2.87. That divergence matters: higher operating profit did not translate into higher bottom-line earnings.
Why did Google Cloud revenue grow 103%?
Google Cloud revenue reached $30.709 billion, up from $15.157 billion a year earlier. Alphabet attributed the growth to demand for enterprise AI infrastructure, AI solutions, core cloud services and sales of its Tensor Processing Unit systems. The company said cloud operating income rose to $11.121 billion from $3.594 billion.
Google Services, the much larger segment encompassing Search, YouTube and subscriptions, generated $96.302 billion, an 11% gain. Google Search and other advertising revenue reached $63.350 billion; YouTube advertising brought in $11.207 billion. These are separate revenue lines, not measures of search traffic or app usage.
Why did Alphabet's earnings per share decline?
The company recorded a net $8.664 billion loss on equity securities in other income and expense. Alphabet's release says the equity-securities loss reduced net income by about $6.7 billion after tax and diluted earnings per share by approximately 55 cents. It would be inaccurate to interpret the lower EPS as proof that the advertising or cloud businesses shrank: both reported higher revenue.
At the same time, Alphabet's research and development expenses rose to $20.640 billion from $15.151 billion. Investors therefore have to distinguish operating trends from the effect of market-valued investments and spending on long-lived AI infrastructure.
What does the $51.4 billion capital-spending figure mean?
Alphabet spent $51.355 billion on property and equipment during the quarter, while operating activities generated $42.290 billion in cash. On the company's own non-GAAP definition, quarterly free cash flow was negative $9.065 billion. That is not the same as a GAAP net loss: Alphabet remained profitable on the income statement, but its capital expenditures exceeded operating cash generation for the quarter.
The release shows trailing-12-month free cash flow of $19.747 billion. These figures highlight the scale and timing risk of AI data-center investment. Capacity purchased now must produce economic returns over future years; quarterly spending alone cannot establish whether those returns will be adequate.
What should Google stock investors watch next?
Three questions are central: whether Google Cloud can sustain strong growth as comparisons get tougher, whether Search revenue remains resilient, and how much additional capital investment is needed to serve AI demand. Earnings-call guidance and future SEC filings can provide more detail, but a single quarter does not settle those questions.
The figures here are from Alphabet's October 28 company release and were cross-checked against independent earnings analysis. They describe historical results, not a stock-price forecast or investment recommendation.
