Sales tax varies by city and state
US sales-tax systems differ across state, county and municipal jurisdictions. This tool intentionally accepts a combined tax percentage instead of claiming a citywide rate that could be out of date or incorrect for a specific purchase. Verify the rate, taxable product category and exemptions with the relevant state revenue agency or merchant.
What is included?
Multiply the unit price by the quantity, apply the percentage to the subtotal, and add any non-taxed fees entered separately. Some states tax shipping or handle special products differently, so this example does not determine legal taxability.
Useful for online and in-store purchases
Compare price differences between shopping areas, but remember that delivery and remote-seller tax treatment may depend on the transaction destination and seller. Results are arithmetic estimates, not tax advice.
