Body mass index is calculated from body weight and height. This tool uses US customary units (pounds and inches) and the adult BMI formula. It displays commonly used adult BMI classifications for general screening, not a measure of an individual's health or body composition.
Why BMI has important limitations
BMI cannot distinguish muscle mass from fat distribution and should be considered alongside age, medical history and other clinical indicators. It is not a substitute for a medical assessment and adult thresholds are not suitable for children or teens. The tool does not collect or store your measurements.
